Q&A: Fruits on the path of meditation
I used to feel and see a golden light around my heart, but now I no longer do. How can I regain this wonderful presence?
When this golden light, which is the light of divine manifestation, touches earth, it may not be able to remain for long. If it feels that it cannot remain in the heart because the heart is not pure enough, it will recede. But when the heart is pure, this light functions first in the heart region; then it moves into the vital and the physical.
To regain the visible presence of light is not necessary, If you want to follow a spiritual path, it is not the light that you want-it is God's constant concern for you, God's real love and blessing. When you have God's concern it can take the form of light, peace, power or any divine quality.
When a beginner sees light, he feels that he is making extraordinary progress. To some extent it is true. If God shows you light, naturally you will be inspired to dive deep into the sea of spirituality. But if God feels that what you need is peace and not light, then He will act through you in a different way.
You want to regain the wonderful presence of this light, but you will not get utmost satisfaction from seeing this light, because you will not be fulfilling God in His own way. Your highest aim is to please God in His own way. When God gives you an experience, you should be most grateful to Him. And when He does not give you one, you have to be equally grateful, because He knows what is best for you. It is your business to meditate soulfully, and it is God's business to give you light or peace or power. God will give you what He has and what He is if you give Him what you have and what you are. What you have is ignorance, and what you are is aspiration. So my request to you is to please God in His own way and not care for the things which you once had and which you now feel you are missing.
Q&A: Fruits on the path of meditation
I once had an experience in which I felt the purity of God and the power and Eternity of God, but then the feeling left me.
This was a gift of pure Grace. The Supreme, out of His infinite bounty, unconditionally offered His Grace to you. That is why this experience was possible. These things are not hallucinations. Spiritual Masters have a free access to these experiences, but seekers also can have them if they pray and meditate sincerely.
You got this experience because of God's Grace, but impurity did not allow you to keep it. Any spiritual wealth that you may have, no matter what kind it is, will be destroyed by impurity. Many people have good experiences on certain days, but the next day they indulge in lower vital life. Then all their higher experiences are destroyed. But if we refrain from enjoying vital life and emotional life, then our higher experiences grow. They grow and become very solid, like a banyan tree. So you have to be extremely careful not to indulge in the vital life if you want to retain the power of your highest experiences.
Q&A: Fruits on the path of meditation
I have recently felt quite distinctly a force that people throw around themselves for protection, or when they don't want to speak to someone. It is like a solid object, like a wall. Is it built consciously or unconsciously?
Usually it is built consciously. Some seekers feel that when they are around unaspiring people they need protection to maintain their high consciousness. They are afraid that the consciousness of the unaspiring people will enter into them like arrows and destroy their aspiration, so they consciously build a wall around themselves. Sometimes ordinary people who are not aspiring have a tremendous insecurity, so they also build a wall around themselves. They are afraid that others will take away whatever little wealth they have.
Spiritual Masters may build this wall to protect themselves from the attacks of the world around them. Some people who come into the presence of a spiritual Master do not want to accept anything. The moment the Master wants to give them peace or light, they attack him inwardly. Or people come to a Master without knowing what they want. Then, for example, when peace, light or bliss is offered, they feel that it is something strange, something foreign, so they reject it vehemently. Or they come to the Master with tremendous expectation and demand, saying "Give me, give me, give me!" But when the Master gives them what they need, they are not satisfied, so they attack him inwardly. For these reasons the Master creates a kind of shield for self-protection.
Each individual has a special aura of which he is not conscious. That aura goes around the person from head to foot and consciously protects him. When we meditate we may see that there is an aura constantly revolving around us. Others' auras we may also see, as people used to see them behind the Buddha or the Christ, for example. Usually these do not revolve or move. But the aura that we all have is constantly moving around us. This aura is a strong protection on the physical, vital and mental levels, but it does not protect the whole being. This aura becomes powerful only through prayer and meditation. Each day when we pray and meditate, this aura is strengthened; then it moves very, very fast. When the movement becomes extremely fast, the aura acquires tremendous strength, and at that time it is able to protect the entire being.

Do we consciously remember all of our inner experiences?
In the case of an ordinary seeker, when he has an inner experience, he may not consciously retain it, although the essence remains in his inner life. Even if it is a high experience, after four years or so he may totally forget it, because the ignorance in his life swallows it. He may say, "How can I have had such an experience? If I did have such an experience, how is it that afterwards I did so many wrong things? How is it that I did not meditate and pray? That means it was not such a significant experience." So his doubt devours the experience and eventually he forgets it. But in the case of a realised person, he knows that whatever he saw or felt was absolutely true. Also, he can remember the inner experiences that he had even from previous incarnations, because of his inner vision. But an ordinary seeker, even if he has had only two major experiences in his life, may not remember them at all.
Q&A: Fruits on the path of meditation
At times during meditation, I feel that my physical heart stops for a few seconds. This frightens me.
When you feel that the physical heart stops, this is a very good experience. But you must not be afraid of it; you won't die. It means that the physical in you has totally surrendered to the spiritual in you. Many spiritual Masters, in order to enter into the higher regions during meditation, have consciously stopped their heartbeat. But only Yogis and spiritual Masters can do this at will. Out of His infinite Compassion, God has given you a glimpse of this experience. You should be very happy. When you become a Yogi, it will be up to you whether or not you want to stop your heartbeat during meditation. What it means is that the physical has totally ceased and the spiritual is reigning supreme. At that time you do not need the physical.

Q&A: Do not give up
Will I ever reach the point where I will always have the inspiration and aspiration to meditate?
Right now your meditation is at the mercy of your inspiration or aspiration. When you are inspired, when you have aspiration, you are ready to meditate. Unfortunately this aspiration, this inner urge, lasts only for a day or for a few weeks and then it disappears. But when you become an expert, meditation will be at your command. How can you become an expert? If you want to become an expert singer or poet or dancer, you have to practise daily. It is the same with meditation. If you practise meditation daily, there comes a time when it becomes spontaneous; you develop an inner habit. After a while, at a certain hour you will feel compelled to meditate. You will feel that meditation is your soul's necessity, and the inner urge to meditate will never leave you. Early every morning when it is time for your meditation, your inner being will come and knock at your heart's door. Then you will have a good meditation every day.
